Choosing which Biology Major is right for you

Biology majors can choose between 6 options and Biochemistry. These major options prepare the student for future study or employment in different areas.

Ecology, Evolution and Behavioral Biology Provides a broad background in the biological sciences with a focus on how organisms evolve and interact with physical and biological environments.
Biology with teacher certification Includes courses necessary for certification in to teach Biology. Additional Education courses must be completed.
Environmental Biology Includes electives in Geology.
Integrative and Medical Biology Provides a broad background in the biological sciences with a focus on the mechanisms by which organisms regulate life proceses. Includes all prerequisites for medical school and other health professions and a well rounded exposure to fields of biology.
Mathematical Biology Includes 6 units of Math or Computer Science as well as 8 units of Biology. Students focus on mathematical approaches and models of living systems. Students explore implications of bioinformatics.
Cell and Molecular Biology Provides focus on cell and molecular level of living systems, including microbial life. Additional math and advanced chemistry are strongly encouraged.
Biochemistry This program combines course selections in Biology and Chemistry. Students participate in Senior Seminars in both departments.
